Sierra de Guara

It is an area to the feet of the Pyrenees, declared protected nature reserve in 1990.
This space is formed by the mountain range of Gabardiella, Guara, Arangol, Balced and Sevil.


The beauty of this Park is not in the altitude of his summits, but in his spectacular sceneries, unique in Europe.
At the Tozal of Guara the astonishing canyons and ravines, as those of the river Vero, has been excavated by water and wind in the limestone; there the adventure sports are the protagonists.

In the Guara mountains we can find very contrasted scenaries and a large diversity of fauna.
The “Sierra” has two areas with very different characteristics: the north, of Alpine type and the south, Mediterranean one.
In the north are conserved beech and fir groves, pasturelands and spots of box trees and an interesting fauna: wild cat, short-toed eagle, peregrine falcon, pyrenean newt …

In the south, we find forests of holm oak and gall-oak, willow and poplar groves and animals like the indigenous crab, Apollo butterflies, “madrillas”, horseshoe bat, …
This nature reserve conserve some of the most important ecosystems of the Iberian Peninsula, protecting plants and animals of great ecological value: rare, unique or endangered species.
The ornithological richness of this enclave propitiated his declaration as an Area of Special Protection for the Birds.
